Yes to sourdough! I created my own sourdough proofing box so I have more predictable rise times (rubbermaid box + seed heat mat in bottom). Sourdough bread, crackers, english muffins, scones... and on and on.
Someone who popped into my head thinking about the 10 year rule was Taylor Jenkins Reid. She had a handful of books that were very "traditional" chic-lit before she broke through. Even though Evelyn Hugo was popular when it was published, I feel like Daisy Jones is what made her a literary star. I remember a lot of people I knew reading Daisy Jones and then going back to Evelyn or even years later reading Evelyn as their first TJR book.
Hi! I listened to this episode while working on my desk this time, and you two were terrific company. My two cents on the 10-year rule women are Sabrina Carpenter and Mikey Madison. Both of them are in their mid-twenties but started polishing their crafts when they were very young. The YouTube channel Zoe Unlimited offers some cool analysis of pop culture icons and how they got where they are today. Zoe has studied some of the people you mentioned in this episode, such as Charli XCX, Olivia Rodrigo, and Chappell Roan. A bro-ugh example of the 10-year rule could be the massive YouTuber MrBeast. On a different note, I have recently listened to an episode of the first season of Off the Grid, and your voice is certainly different, Amelia! I have also noticed that your interviewing skills have improved a lot. You seem more patient and nuanced now, and I'm so here for it! Thanks for mentioning the show Mrs Davis! Added to my list now. All in all, I really enjoyed this conversation! Hope you had a wonderful rest of the month.
P.S. How was your Michelin feast in Chicago?! I was hoping you would circle back to that topic because I'm looking forward to knowing about the experience!
Ooh this is an interesting perspective! Sabrina and Olivia are both child stars, and I wonder how childhood stardom can both you a head start on the 10-year rule (Olivia and Sabrina) or set you back (Amanda Bynes). And yes, we'll come back to Alinea. The experience is seared into my brain in the best way!
It can’t definitely set you back if you’re surrounded by predators, as was the case with many Nickelodeon child stars like Amanda Bynes and Drake Bell. I would even include Ariana Grande in this group. I don’t think we are aware (yet) of the extent of weird stuff, to put it mildly, she had endured there. I think the same applies to gymnasts or other kids in elite sports. Stardom and accolades, but at what cost?! Thank you for replying and looking forward to the next episode.
I love all these 10-year rule examples! And thanks for staying with me through those older episodes 🫣 As soon as Taylor and I stopped recording, I remembered we should circle back to Alinea. It was amazing and we'll talk about it next month!

My key discovery from the Oscars, via looking at photos of Colman Domingo, is that he met his husband via *Craigslist missed connections*.
Oh I LOVE this lil bit of trivia
